In China there is a natural phenomenon that looks terrible. The sky in Zhejiang Province turned fiery red, like a scene of destruction in a science fiction movie.
The local meteorological bureau of Zhoushan, a city in East China’s Zhejiang Province, announced on Sunday (8/5) local time that red sky flaming that appears in this area, is caused by refraction and scattering light.
Most likely the source of this light scattering comes from the ship’s lights in the harbor. The rare phenomenon of red skies appearing in Zhoushan is shown in videos and photos taken by local residents.
The red sky phenomenon then became one of the top trending topics on social media such as China’s version of Twitter, Sina Weibo. Posts related to this phenomenon attracted more than 150 million views on Sunday night.
“I’ve never seen anything like this before. It’s amazing, the sky can even turn red,” said one video maker, as quoted from Global Times, Monday (9/5/2022).
Zhoushan Meteorological Bureau staff explained that the weather was foggy and cloudy in Zhoushan on Saturday (7/5) and it was drizzling at the time. red sky may be due to light reflection from low -level clouds.
“When the weather conditions are good, more water in the atmosphere forms aerosols that refract and scatter the light of fishing vessels and make the red sky visible to the public,” said the meteorological bureau staff.
Some netizens refer to a similar event when the red sky phenomenon appeared for nine days in many countries in 1770. The event was claimed by Japanese scientists in a scientific article in 2017, caused by massive solar activity.
An expert from the research team of space physics from China University of Geosciences in Wuhan, told the media that solar and geomagnetic activity during the red sky phenomenon was observed to be calm and there were no significant anomalies in solar activity.
This description essentially excludes the possibility that the phenomena red sky in Zhoushan due to geomagnetic and solar activity.
