Several people witnessed the horror scene in the streets of Charleville-Mézières, in the French Ardennes. A driver had his two dogs strapped to his car. One dog ran along, the other couldn’t keep up with the pace and was dragged over the cobblestones for a mile.
Witnesses in the Mohon neighborhood tried to stop the driver, but he continued to drive. Only when a number of young people literally threw themselves in front of the car did the driver brake.
“We took his keys to prevent him from driving,” said a witness. “The animals were injured and licked each other’s blood,” says a local resident who filmed everything.

Much to the anger of bystanders, the driver did not even have to take an alcohol test. The 66-year-old man said he was absent-minded and did not know the dogs were behind his car. He was allowed to leave with his dogs. Officers advised him to go to a vet. But he has not, according to the president of the local animal rights organization, Lisa.
According to chairman Sabrina, they visited the dogs. The 13-year-old fox terrier has fractures, a 3-year-old hunting dog is in so much pain that he does not want to be touched. The organization has now filed a complaint against the owner, demanding that the animals be removed from him.
