On Saturday, Børsen wrote about Danish Edel Cecilie Handeland who had her summer holiday ruined. Handeland and his family were shocked by the sight that met them in the cottage they had rented on Falster in Denmark.
Inside the house were both used condoms and dirty boxers. There were blood stains in the bed.
Got a shock start to the summer holidays: – Tasty
Just two days before Handeland arrived at the cottage in question, Morten Kracht and his family should actually have moved in. They also turned in the door.
– We arrived at a summer house where it looked as if they before us had left in the middle of the night. It was not cleaned up and it was incredibly disgusting there. There was both blood and poop in the beds, food left in the fridge, spaghetti with meatballs and tomato sauce in a pot – and on the walls. It was so incredibly disgusting, says Kracht to Dagbladet.

It was the Danish newspaper BT who first shared the stories of both Handeland and Kracht.
– Looked like a horror movie
After BT wrote the story for Handeland on Friday, Kracht reacted immediately to what he saw.
Handeland told BT how she had to start the holiday by cleaning the house for three hours, with crying children. When she complained to the rental company Novasol, she was offered compensation of 1,700 Danish kroner and a free final cleaning. She herself had paid 11,295 Danish kroner for a week in the summer house in Marielyst on Falster.
On July 10, Kracht arrived with his wife and two children aged 12 and 15 at the house. With high expectations for the summer holidays, they had driven for six hours from Struer in Jutland, to the summer house.
Tourists pooped on the beaches
– We arrived at the agreed time at 16, but then the house was not ready. Then we went to buy groceries, but when we came back to put the goods away, it was still not clear. That was when I went into the house to see what was going on, Kracht told Dagbladet.
The sight that met him was like taken from a movie.
– When we saw the house, it looked like something that had been taken from a horror movie. I did not believe my own eyes. Of course we would not live there, he says.
– Poorly handled
Therefore, Kracht took pictures of the house, and then went straight up to Novasol’s office. There he demanded to get his money back, because the family no longer wanted to live there. Novasol agreed, and the family also received a paid dinner the same evening.

However, when he asked for payment for “tort and burn”, including for the transport between Struer and Falster, Novasol refused and referred to the terms of the lease.
Inside Norwegian million cabins
– My wife and I thought this had been incredibly badly handled. I’m mad because Novasol ruined our vacation. We came there with expectations of relaxing and being with our friends, but that did not happen, he says and adds:
– Novasol is responsible for ensuring that it is clean when we arrive at the agreed time. The cleaning staff was there when we arrived, but it was an insurmountable task ahead of them. An industrial cleaning had to be done in that house.
Knew about the condition
Kracht has been told that there was a group of young people who had lived there before them. They had not ordered final cleaning after their stay, nor had they apparently tried to clean up after themselves.
The municipality wanted to demolish Jens’ pirate cabin (4)
Kracht tells BT that he had been contacted by neighbors in the area, after he shared his frustration in a Facebook post. Neighbors have told power that the young people had been partying loudly all night, and the police had passed by. Therefore, Novasol had also been warned about what could await them in the cottage.
– They must have done a normal clear cleaning and just thought that they could rent it out further. Novasol knew how the condition was in the house when Edel’s family was to take over the house two days later, he tells Dagbladet.
It therefore affected both Edel Cecilie Handeland and Kraft’s family holidays.
– I felt so sorry for Edel and her family, and it is incredible that they did not receive more than 1700 kroner after what they went through, Kracht says.
– Hurts
In an e-mail to Dagbladet, Per Brogaard, commercial director of Novasol Denmark, writes that they do not have the opportunity to comment on individual cases in the media, but that they are in personal dialogue with their guests to find the best solutions.
– We live off satisfied guests, and work hard to ensure a good holiday for all our guests. People can rightly expect to start their holiday in a clean and nice holiday home, and we are very sorry when we can not live up to it, writes Brogaard.
Cottage idyll became a nightmare
He further writes that Novasol has a high standard of cleaning, and claims that 97 percent of guests do not need help from the local offices during their stay.

– Any incorrect cleaning is one too many, he writes and adds:
– The pictures we have seen abound around the last few days are far from our standard. It hurts to see.
He explains that in the high season they have more than 2000 employees who must ensure that all the houses are in the best possible condition on arrival.
– The hectic summer, with many guests and many cancellations and rebookings, has unfortunately led to unforeseen challenges, especially in cases where the guests themselves choose to be responsible for the final cleaning, Brogaard writes.
He further explains that there has therefore been an increased need to call in professional cleaning staff at the last minute, if the cleaning has not been carried out sufficiently.
– We take these experiences with us when we optimize the procedures to create an even better experience for the subsequent tenants, Brogaard writes to Dagbladet.
