Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – China sent 39 warplanes to Taiwan’s air defense zone (ADIZ), Sunday (23/1/2022). It was the biggest daily strike since October 2021, 56 warplanes.
Taiwan’s ministry said it broadcast warnings and deployed missiles to track down the jets. It is believed China sent advanced J-16 fighter jets to the H-6 nuclear bomber.
“Sunday’s strike was carried out by 24 J-16 fighter jets, 10 J-10 fighter jets, two Y-9 transport aircraft, two Y-8 anti-submarine warning aircraft, and one nuclear-capable H-6 bomber,” the ministry said. Taiwan defense loaded CNN, Monday (24/1/2022).
China considers Taiwan part of its province. Meanwhile the island considers itself an independent country.
Chinese pressure is getting stronger in 2021. Later this year, President Xi Jinping even called for a “complete homeland unification” between China and Taiwan.
“I sincerely hope that all the sons and daughters of the Chinese nation will join forces to create a brighter future for our nation,” he said.
In July 2021, on the 100th anniversary of the Communist Party, Xi also stressed that Taiwan’s independence is something that must be avoided and fought with all-out.
“All sons and daughters of China, including their compatriots on both sides of the Taiwan Strait, must work together and move forward in solidarity, resolutely destroying the plot of ‘Taiwan independence’,” he said.
The United States (US) itself takes a position to defend Taiwan in this issue. The country supplies weapons to Taiwan even though it has not officially recognized the country.
