Horrifying, Hubble Captures the Moment a Black Hole Turns a Star into a Donut Shape

SUKABUMIUPDATE.com – There are so many mysteries in outer space that can make people wonder and shudder, one of which is the phenomenon of hungry black holes that the Hubble Space Telescope managed to capture.

Black holes themselves are space objects that are known to be capable of destroying planets and even large stars.

Quoting from the official website of the United States national space agency NASAastronomers who use Hubble Telescope Captures in detail the last moments of a star as it is swallowed by a black hole.

Scientists call this phenomenon “tidal disruption events”. When this phenomenon occurs, there is a balance between the gravity of the black hole which attracts objects such as stars and material that emits radiation.

NASA also mentions that the distance of the star that was devoured by the black hole is nearly 300 million light years away at the core of the galaxy ESO 583-G004.

But astronomers can still see seconds of the phenomenon by using Hubble’s powerful ultraviolet sensitivity to study the light from a torn star, which includes hydrogen, carbon, and more.

About 100 tidal disruption events around black holes have been detected by astronomers using various telescopes, one of which is Hubble.

“Tidal events observed in ultraviolet light are very few given the time of observation. This is unfortunate because a lot of information can be obtained from the ultraviolet spectrum,” said Emily Engelthaler from the Center for Astrophysics | Harvard & Smithsonian (CFA) in Cambridge, Massachusetts, as quoted from the official website NASA (17/1/2023).
