A provincial governor in Filipina Central and five other people were shot dead by a group of gunmen on Saturday (4/3/2023). President Ferdinand Marcos condemned the assassination of the Governor of the Province of Oriental Negros Roel Degamo who was a political ally of his.

Governor Degamo’s family confirmed that the governor died from a gunshot wound he received in the incident shooting which occurred at his residence on Saturday morning local time.
According to local media, The Manila Times, Saturday (4/3/2023), in a Facebook post, Pamplona Mayor Janice Degamo said her husband was declared dead at 11:41 local time. He said, “The governor did not deserve such a death.”
He said the governor was visiting his constituents on Saturday, along with the head of his department when he was shot by unidentified assailants.
“There were five other people who died with him. They were there for help,” said Janice Degamo.
“Give the governor the justice he deserves,” he added.
According to the latest reports from the field, Governor Degamo was talking with some of his constituents in front of his house in Barangay San Isidro, Pamplona city when a group of gunmen who were on top of two SUVs, shot the governor several times and hit other civilians as well.
Governor and the other victims were immediately rushed to the nearest hospital, but their lives could not be saved.
