A famous lawyer Pakistan shot dead inside the courthouse in Peshawar. Perpetrator shooting who is also a lawyer, has been arrested by local police.
As reported CNNTuesday (17/1/2023), Abdul Latif Afridi (79) was shot six times while in the break room at the Peshawar High Court on Monday (16/1) local time.
Apart from being a veteran lawyer, Latif Afridi is also known as a human rights (HAM) activist and former president of the association of lawyers for the Supreme Court of Pakistan.
Peshawar Police Office, Muhammad Ijaz Khan, said to CNN that the shooter was identified as Adnan Sami Afridi (24) who is a junior lawyer. Even though he has the same last name, Adnan is not related to Latif Afridi.
Adnan has been arrested by the local police, after the deadly shooting occurred.
The motive behind the shooting is not yet clear.
However, the statement of an eyewitness, Hayat Roghani, said that the perpetrator raised both hands to surrender after shooting. It was also mentioned by eyewitnesses that the perpetrator said he had taken revenge for the death of his father.
In a statement to CNNlocal police also said that the perpetrator called the shooting a revenge killing.
