A tragic incident unfolded in a small mining community in northern Idaho, where a man has been accused of shooting and killing four of his neighbors, including two teenagers. Majorjon Kaylor, 31, of Kellogg, was arrested shortly after the shooting and has been charged with murder. He is currently being held in the Shoshone County jail.
The victims have been identified as Kenneth Guardipee, 65; his daughter Kenna Guardipee, 41; and her sons, 18-year-old Devin Smith and 16-year-old Aiken Smith. The family had recently moved into the same multi-home building as Kaylor. The motive behind the shooting remains unknown, and authorities have not released many details about the incident.
However, it has been revealed that there was a previous dispute between the families. A week before the shootings, Kaylor’s family had called the police to complain about 18-year-old Devin Smith allegedly engaging in indecent exposure in front of Kaylor’s young daughters. The police had responded to the call and recommended charging Smith with indecent exposure, but there is no record of the charge in the online court system.
During Kaylor’s initial court appearance, the prosecuting attorney described the crime as “relatively horrific” and mentioned that one of the victims was a child. Kaylor reportedly admitted to the killings during his interview with the police. Video surveillance obtained by the police captured the altercation and gunshots.
The quadruple homicide has deeply affected the Kellogg community, and detectives are working to establish a timeline and determine what led to the shooting. A GoFundMe campaign has been set up to raise funds for the victims’ funeral expenses, which has already raised over $3,600.
This tragic incident comes just seven months after another multiple killing in Idaho, where four University of Idaho students were found stabbed to death in Moscow. The recent killings in Idaho also occurred during a weekend marked by a surge in gun violence across the United States.
A preliminary hearing in Majorjon Kaylor’s case has been scheduled for July 3. If convicted, he could face the death penalty.
