Horrible Putin! Russia threatens to launch nuclear missiles at Europe

Jakarta, CNBC IndonesiaRussia has signaled that it will launch its intermediate-range nuclear missiles in Europe. This could have been done by the Kremlin, if the United States (US) and NATO put more pressure on the country.

Russia is known to be at odds with the US and NATO in the Black Sea over the ownership of Crimea. Concerns about Russia attacking Ukraine, which also claims the Crimea region, are the cause.

This warning came from the mouth of Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov. He said Russia would be forced to act if the West refused to join it in its moratorium on the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Powers (INF) in Europe, a security guarantee package offered by Russia as a price to ease the crisis in Ukraine.

“The lack of progress towards a political and diplomatic solution will lead Russia to respond by military means, with military technology,” he was quoted as saying by the state news agency RIA, reported Reuters, Tuesday (14/12/2021).

“Meaning, this will be a confrontation, this will be the next round,” he said, referring to the Russian missiles.

Medium-range nuclear missiles have a range of 500 to 5,500 km (310 to 3,400 miles). Its use was previously banned in Europe under a 1987 agreement between then-Soviet Union leader Mikhail Gorbachev and US President Ronald Reagan, a symbol of the end of the Cold War.

In 1991, at least 2,700 rural areas were destroyed. However, this year, tensions between the two countries have peaked due to the Crimea-Ukraine crisis.

Earlier last week, US President Joe Biden coordinated with NATO’s Bucharest Nine group to discuss a potential military escalation after Moscow. This is after the White Bear Country sent more than 100 thousand of its military to areas that previously belonged to Ukraine.

The NATO Bucharest Group of Nine consists of nine countries. Namely Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Romania and Slovakia.

The White House also added that this coordination was also carried out after Biden spoke with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. Zelensky himself has asked NATO for help to ward off the threat of a Russian attack even though Kiev is not yet a member of the defense pact.

The meeting took place also after Biden and Putin held a remote meeting on December 6. Biden had threatened Putin with economic sanctions if Russia was determined to hurt Ukraine.
