Syrian authorities found the bodies of 34 migrants drowned off the port city of Tartuz in the northwestern part of the country, world agencies reported, citing the Syrian health ministry. Twenty people were rescued and sent to the local hospital for treatment.
The victims and injured come from a boat with migrants that left Lebanon this afternoon and capsized off the Syrian coast. This is one of the deadliest incidents involving migrants in this area. Many Lebanese, Palestinians and Syrians are trying to leave Lebanon by sea due to the crisis in that country and are heading to Europe.
