Horizon: Zero Dawn doesn’t natively support ray tracing, but if it did, the results would look fantastic – a new video proves that.
An 8K video posted on the DigitalDreams YouTube channel shows Guerilla Games’ first Horizon running with NiceGuy’s Complete RT shader. This advanced screen-space ray tracing shader allows you to add global illumination with effects such as diffuse and specular lighting, ambient occlusion and glossy reflections to any game via Reshade. Unsurprisingly, the end result is so stunning that the modified first installment in the series outshines the visuals of its sequel.
The sequel to Horizon: Zero Dawn, Horizon: Forbidden West, has so far only been released on PlayStation 5 and received the Burning Shores expansion this year. While the game improved on its predecessor in every aspect, it didn’t bring any significant innovation to the game.
Forbidden West will be released on PC next year, and with trace support it will be even better than what happened in Zero Dawn.
