The developers from Guerrilla Games prepared a presentation of Horizon Forbidden West for last night. Despite the expectations, the continuation of the highly successful game from 2017 still does not have a release date, but it was only a small black dot on an otherwise amazing 14-minute experience. Exactly, as Sony officials promised a few days ago, there was a mix of cutscenes and self-acting that left a deep impression on viewers of yesterday’s State of Play. The video managed to collect almost 1.5 million views in less than 12 minutes, earned over 100,000 positive reactions, and the comments are full of praise and ode to the aforementioned Dutch studio.
More than ever, in the case of this video, the images are worth a thousand words, but we still can’t forgive ourselves for at least a short comment and a hint of the things that interested us in the video. First of all, it is certainly important to remember that the story of Forbidden West follows half a year after the events of Zero Dawn, when the main heroine Aloy goes to the West of the world, which was once the United States. It is understandable that they will encounter completely new tribes and threats, which the video presents from the first moments. The introductory animation is then a perfect example of what a technological and design move forward can look like, and it is hardly possible to find something in the dialogue between the heroine and the injured cousin that would not look good. After the action sequence and finding out that, unlike the tribes in the homeland of the main heroine, the local invaders can saddle machinery, Aloy plunges into the sea, opening up another layer and part of the world that was forbidden in the case of the first part.
The fact that Forbidden West has grown compared to the first part is also proved by new mechanical monsters led by a robo-mammoth, with which Aloy will face in the second half of the video.
Already in the first demonstrations, we were able to watch her underwater actions, and after watching yesterday’s video, we confirm that it was not just a cashmere. The underwater environment is as colorful as the landscape all around and acts as a welcome extension of the places in which we will be able to move. That Forbidden West versus the first part grew up, then they also prove new mechanical monsters led by a robo-mammoth, with which Aloy will face in the second half of the video. Equipped with a bow and a plethora of arrows, however, it can face such a massive threat, and everything really looks like a natural evolution of action from the original game. However, the developers from Guerrilla Games managed to enrich the gameplay with a launch anchor and a glider, thanks to which it is possible not only to cover greater distances, but also to involve it in movement during combat, which again offers other ways to approach skirmishes.
As for the story, for obvious reasons, we didn’t have a chance to watch anything that revealed the captured circumstances, but Aloy sets out to save his friend Erend in the ruins of San Francisco. However, he encounters resistance from the Tenakth tribe, who – like Aloy – have mastered the ability to control machines and will probably become the main enemy of the whole adventure. At this point, however, we must recall that the first part was not completely black and white in the perception of the positive and negative sides, and it would not actually surprise us if the tribe eventually became allies. After all, who wouldn’t want to live in the shadow of the Golden Gate Bridge. Well, at least in what was left of it, right?
Developers, however, before airing State of Play on Twitter gradually introduced the individual clans of the Tenakth tribe, which do not live only in the place of San Francisco. Gradually we will get to the desert, mountains, swamps, swamps and, last but not least, to a dangerous bay, where we will encounter different looking and otherwise operating clans.
