Horizon Forbidden West is fast approaching its release date of February 18, 2022 and ahead of the launch to PS5 and PS4 the first age rating has now been revealed.
Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB), which assigns age and content ratings to video games in the US, Canada and Mexico, has given Aloy’s upcoming robot adventure a “T” rating for teenage games, meaning it will not be suitable for the youngest members of the family.
It is listed that the game contains “blood, crude language, alcohol consumption and violence” in its justification for the grade which is not particularly surprising given the similar content of the first game.
Deadly statues
The description that comes with the rating also gives a little more insight into what you can expect from the game. The ESRB assessment writes:
“This is an action adventure game where players take on the role of a hero (Aloy) who travels to discover the source of a mysterious signal. From a third-person perspective, players cross post-apocalyptic environments / landscapes, complete missions, interact with characters and take part in battles against enemy tribes. and robot beings.
“Players use slingshots, bows and spears to kill enemies in frantic battles. Splashes of blood are depicted when human enemies meet; blood stains also occur under bodies in certain environments. Players can also perform stealth attacks (such as sharpening enemies with spears) to discreetly eliminate Enemies Sequence depicts additional acts of violence: a character sharpened by a sword or spear; a character crushed to death by a statue. The game depicts drunken characters stumbling around; taverns. The word “sh * t” is heard in the game. “
“Death by statue” sounds exciting to say the least. We’ve always dreamed of being able to use Venus from Milo against a giant titan T-Rex, so we’m keeping our fingers crossed that that niche wish will finally come true in Horizon Forbidden West.
In addition to a delay in launch, Horizon Forbidden West initially created controversy among PS5 and PS4 owners when the game was revealed to be a cross-gen title (and thus did not take full advantage of the power of the PS5 to satisfy the older PS4 console) , and that players on the PS4 would eventually have to pay an extra fee to upgrade to the next generation PS5 features. But fortunately, that decision was eventually overturned.
