Until December 19, the Latgale Museum of Cultural History in Rēzekne will host the traditional exhibition of works by Latgale artists “Autumn 2020”, which brings together the works of 49 authors.
“Horizon” has been chosen as the theme for the annual exhibition of Latgale artists this year, inspired by Jānis Klīdzējs and his text “Heavenly Side”. The motto is like a source of inspiration, a driver of creative work, thinking about the concept of the exhibition. Inese Dundure, the head of the Art Department of the Latgale Museum of Cultural History, told the Latvian Radio program “Kultūras Rondo” that the main motive of the exhibition is also reflected in the works of the exhibition: “
Of course, the ambiguous word “Horizon”, which we can turn inwards, look at and evaluate our attitudes towards life, towards what we encounter. “
The exhibition features a large amount of material – a total of 61 works of art, from a range of different artistic directions – painting, graphics, sculpture, ceramics and installations. In it you can find both the works of already known artists who participate in the exhibition every year, as well as the works of young artists. The exhibition represents Latgale artists’ views of the world today. The head of the museum, Anastasia Strauta, also revealed that as a result of the exhibition, the museum’s fine art collection will be supplemented by purchasing a work.
“We can trace how artists see this era with their own eyes, it is a testament to history, how they have grown, how their handwriting has developed, it all appears in these works,” Strauta said.
The exhibition “Autumn 2020”, as well as other expositions of the Latgale Museum of Cultural History can be viewed by anyone interested, observing security measures. Nevertheless, the number of visitors has dropped.
The head of the museum expressed hope that individual visitors would see the exhibition: “[Apmeklētāji] coming, but relatively less than it has in the past, other years at this time. Especially when the traditional exhibition of Latgale artists’ works “Autumn 2020” is now open. It is a very popular and well-known exhibition, and there were usually a lot of visitors. ”
The number of works of art that have been submitted to the jury for evaluation has also fallen this year, due to unstable conditions and doubts about what has been done, said Inese Dundure.
The museum hosts the joint exhibition of Latgale artists “Autumn 2020”, permanent expositions and currently also the traveling exhibition “For Latvian Diplomacy and the Foreign Service 100” created by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which will be on view until January 26, 2021.
