It looks like recent conversions Horizon: Zero Dawn i Days Gone on the PC were not a one-time freak. Sony intends to continue the trend of transferring its titles to PCs. However, this does not mean that players of this platform will be treated in the same way as console owners. Hermen Hulst, head of PlayStation Studios, explained his approach to this issue in an interview for PlayStation.Blog.
We are still in the early stages of planning for PC. Horizon: Zero Dawn to be a great success. I guess this shows how much players outside the PlayStation ecosystem have an appetite to experience the amazing portfolio of games that PlayStation fans have enjoyed for years.
At the same time, I want to emphasize that PlayStation will still remain the best way to play PlayStation Studios titles for the premiere. However, we value PC gamers and will continue to look for the right time to publish individual games. Bend Studio has released a PC version Days Gone May 18. So they are about two years after the premiere on PS4.
Hopefully this will allow a whole new group of fans to enjoy this title. It is our goal that we want to reach new players who have not yet experienced the wonderful stories, characters and worlds we have created. Releasing PC games will never come at the expense of building an exciting console production line.
So it seems that Sony still intends to focus mainly on its consoles. It is their owners who will be able to play new titles on the day of their premiere and take advantage of the wide range of productions prepared by PlayStation Studios for them.
The company’s policy towards the PC may therefore be considered a specific incentive to purchase the console. Yes, PC users can play some of the games released on PlayStation, but they will only do so a few years after their premiere. The message is therefore simple, if you want to fully enjoy the titles we produce, buy consoles.
