Horben: October 23rd, “Working together”: First landscape maintenance day in Horben near the Steinmühle – cooperation between the Black Forest biosphere area with the community and the Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald Landscape Conservation Association

Preserving the cultural landscape together and keeping the landscape open: That is the motto of the first landscape conservation day in Horben (Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald district). With the community of Horben and the Landscape Conservation Association Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald e. V. organizes the Black Forest Biosphere Reserve on Saturday, October 23rd, a care assignment at the Black Forest Farm Steinmühle. Everyone who wants to contribute to the preservation of the traditional pasture landscape in the southern Black Forest is invited. Children and teenagers are just as welcome as adults. Horbens Mayor Benjamin Bröcker takes over the patronage for the care day.

The volunteers meet at 9.30 a.m. at the Horben town hall. After the greeting by Mayor Bröcker and the team of the biosphere area, the participants drive in car pools to the care area at the stone mill. The work takes place on a slope that is heavily overgrown with trees and bushes opposite the stone mill. After the succession trees have been removed, a pasture area is to be created and an adjacent field hedge is to be upgraded and released.

Around 12.30 p.m. there is a one-hour lunch break with regional vespers. If you want, you can continue your work afterwards. The end of the care assignment is planned for 3 p.m. The community of Horben and the Hug von der Steinmühle family take care of the physical well-being and food. The Hug farming family is an official partner of the biosphere area and also cultivates these areas.

Hand tools and gloves can partially be provided. Otherwise, participants are asked to bring their own equipment. These include, for example, loppers, hacksaws, work gloves, rain protection and, in any case, sturdy shoes.

To take part in the care day, prior registration is required by Thursday, October 21, by email to [email protected]. The country’s current Corona regulation applies. The event takes place in the open air. A 3-G certificate (vaccinated, tested or recovered) is required to use the bus shuttle to the venue.
