Oranjestad – The Horacio Oduber Hospital (HOH) is temporarily postponing all regular operations. The number of patients requiring admission due to an accident or illness is increasing. The hospital does not have enough rooms to care for all patients. .
The news of the temporary suspension of regular operations was not announced by the hospital, but – yesterday afternoon – by the Minister of Health, Dangui Oduber (MEP). The HOH will prioritize the care and well-being of patients who come to the hospital urgently and require immediate surgery. There must always be a place for these patients. To continue to guarantee this, other patients have to wait. Their operations have been postponed.
The decision has consequences for all of Aruba. The Minister of Health emphasizes to the population that it is now essential to stay healthy. That’s a challenge with the current wave of flu and other respiratory problems. “It is now crucial to prevent flu symptoms from worsening and medical attention from being required,” said Minister Oduber.
He gives prevention tips that the population can follow. Eat healthy, stay active, look after your mental health, take vitamins and drink plenty of water. Consumption of alcohol and sugar should be reduced.
Finally, the minister points out that Aruba is in the carnival period. “I count on everyone’s understanding and cooperation, so that we can make it a wonderful carnival time.”
