Hoppeditz Awakens and Criticizes: Erkrath Carnival Festivities

“Erkrath Helau, Carnival Helau, Hoppeditzerwachen Helau” was the motto on Saturday at Bavierplatz. While the mustard pot was stuck in the stronghold of Düsseldorf, the newly awakened spirit of the carnival drove up to Erkrath on its green tractor at exactly 2:11 p.m. Accompanied by the “HoppeditZicken Guard” and lively music, Hoppeditz Sabine and Mini-Hoppeditz Laura were happily welcomed and celebrated by the crowd of fools.

As is tradition, the festival started with a peppery speech in which Hoppeditz put his finger in the city’s wounds. Whether it was the fallow Neanderhöhe, the chaos when replacing the yellow bins or the long-running construction sites – Sabine didn’t mince her words and packaged criticism of the problem in carnival-worthy rhymes. Just as traditionally, it was then up to the mayor to answer on behalf of the city. Christoph Schultz did this with humor and confidently rhymed back.

“Hochdahl’s town pond is now full | Does everyone think that? Really great. | Unfortunately, how could it be otherwise? Security measures such as fences and restrictions | Yes, they do tarnish the beautiful appearance,” Hoppeditz observed Sabine. The mayor was able to explain this: “But there still needs to be a fence around it, the municipal insurance company tells us. | We don’t want this to be a long-term solution “I hope the insurance company gets smarter.” This was just one example of how different responsibilities can cause delays and dissatisfaction in a municipality without the city administration itself being able to do anything about it. For example, the yellow bins: “Because the allocation of waste collection in yellow | is regulated by the private sector alone | The city and district have nothing to say about it “We can only pass on the pile of complaints,” lamented the mayor.

But Schultz also shared things himself, such as against the federal government in Berlin (“The traffic lights don’t give us much joy, because there’s a fight there too; I don’t envy Olaf Scholz’s bullying either”) or against activists who commit crimes: “The last generation enjoys gluing | believes that no one will live after her | They should really celebrate at the carnival | Instead of blocking roads, they have a bang.” Back to Erkrath: Regarding the eternal construction site on Neanderstrasse, the mayor was able to announce: “The misery of the construction site traffic lights is now over The route for the carnival procession is clear!”

By the way, this rolls on Saturday, February 3rd. Beforehand, carnival fans can look forward to the order festival in the auditorium of the Erkrath secondary school (November 18th, 7 p.m.) and the colorful evening in the town hall (January 27th, 7:11 p.m.). The celebration continued on Bavierplatz until early evening – with music from Johnny, De Schlopfmütze, and Cisco Steward at the end.
