Amal Probe Entering Mars Orbit (Provided by Emirates Mars Exploration Project) 2021.02.10 /News1 |
The United Arab Emirates (UAE) became the fifth country to settle on Mars orbit, and the first country in the Arab world. Prior to the UAE, only the former Soviet Union, the United States, the European Union (EU), and India settled the probe on Mars orbit.
On the 9th (local time), CNN reported that the Mars probe’Amal’ (meaning hope in Arabic) launched by the UAE in July last year successfully entered Mars orbit at 7:57 pm that day.
Amal, launched from Japan’s Tanegashima Space Center on July 19 last year, entered Mars orbit after flying 4930.5 million kilometers for seven months.
The Amal probe, which has entered the elliptical orbit of Mars, is located between 999 km and 49,380 km from the surface of Mars, orbits about 55 hours and collects the entire image of Mars every 9 days.
Amal, designed and developed by technical staff of Muhammad bin Rashid Space Center (MBRSC) in collaboration with the University of Colorado, Boulder, Arizona, and the University of California, Berkeley, will be the first in the history of space science to obtain a planet-wide photograph of Mars’ annual weather and climate I am going to perform a mission.
“Amal will be higher in orbit than other Mars probes,” said David Brain, Ph.D. at the University of Colorado’s Atmospheric and Space Physics Institute. “At this altitude, the probe can show half the surface of Mars wherever it is.”
The Amalho will measure and compare daily, yearly and seasonal climate changes occurring between the upper and lower Martian atmospheres.
The first exploration data secured by Amalho will be released in September of this year, and will be freely available to scientists from any country. In addition, the UAE will announce the results of analyzing the data in early December and share it with the world.
In an interview with CNN, Sarah Vint Yousef Al Amiri, the head of the project and the UAE Minister of Advanced Science, said, “Since we started the experiment in 2013, we have faced countless challenges that are difficult to overcome in a country without infrastructure.” Was vomiting.
“With the efforts of many people, we eventually succeeded,” he said. “I feel proud to be able to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the UAE’s founding as well as the 50th anniversary of the first landing on Mars in 2021.” .
When the news that Amal has settled on Mars orbit, the Burj Khalifa in Dubai, the tallest building in the world, as well as public monuments, cultural heritages, and landmarks held a red light show to celebrate this.
Meanwhile, China’s Mars probe Tianyuan 1, launched in July last year along with Amal, and US probe Perservation, are also expected to complete their first mission within this month. Tianyuan 1 is expected to enter Mars orbit on the 10th, and Perseverance will attempt to land on Mars on the 18th.
