Hooverphonic was thrilled after their qualification for the Eurovision Song Contest final. Frontman Alex Callier was speechless on rare occasions. And singer Geike Arnaert could no longer overcome her nerves, but is relieved with the result.

“It was thrilling,” said Alex Callier in an initial reaction. “I lost my voice. Believe me or not, I am speechless. That doesn’t happen often. I have to enjoy it. ” Callier called the final place “surreal”.

Geike Arnaert was also quietly delighted. “What is going through my mind? I do not know. Or still: I am relieved. That was exciting for me. Really not cool, the summons of the finalists. ” Belgium was only announced as the ninth of the ten qualified countries. “On to Saturday”, Geike continued. “We wanted to be there, in the final. And we did it. Nice anyway! ”

Congratulations

Hooverphonic gave another press conference at night. “There was a lot of pressure on our shoulders in the last week. This feels like a liberation ”, Callier explained to the foreign journalists. “Just because you are a band that has been touring for over 25 years does not mean that you automatically go on (to the final, ed.). We can return to our country without being killed or beheaded, ”he said, winking at the end of the video clip of The wrong place.

Asked if this is a win for the music, Callier had to think for a moment. “It’s a win for Hooverphonic. And a victory for Belgium. ” Guitarist Raymond Geerts added: “This is a victory for the believers. ” He was referring to the doubts whether Hooverphonic could advance to the final.

Callier further stated that the group has already received several congratulations from well-known colleagues after qualifying. “Immediately after the results were announced, I received a personal message from Tom Dice, who finished sixth in this competition (in 2010, red.). And also one by Dan Lacksman who in the 80s with Telex Eurovision brought for Belgium. And you (to Geike, ed.) got a message from Barbara Dex (Belgian candidate in 1993, ed.). It’s great that all of Belgium is encouraging us. ”

The frontman referred specifically to Koen Wauters, who represented Belgium with Clouseau in 1991. He said to me: Enjoy it, it’s a great experience. We can now also say to all bands in Belgium: don’t hesitate, go for it, it’s fun, a great experience, do it. ”

At the end of the press conference, a draw was made for the classification of the final. Hooverphonic was assigned a spot in the first half of Saturday’s show. Later the exact starting position is determined by the TV producers.
