Hooverphonic throws away record with ex-singer Luka and makes new album with Geike: “It just has to be right” | Music

MusicHooverphonic has been busy in recent months. Alex Callier (48) already wrote a brand new song for the Eurovision Song Contest, but in the meantime he also worked on a completely new record with Geike Arnaert (41). We should not expect the album he made with Luka Cruysberghs (20), the group’s previous singer.

Last year, Alex Callier and Raymond Geerts already announced that Hooverphonic would look slightly different from now on. Luka Cruysberghs unexpectedly had to make way for Geike Arnaert, who in the past could call herself the singer of the group. But the group now has a number of novelties in store for us. They recently presented their new Eurovision entry with ‘The Wrong Place’. There was no longer any question of ‘Release Me’, which received a lot of criticism. And it doesn’t stop there either, because the record they made with Luka at the time is not going to be released. Together with comeback kid Geike the group has been working on a completely new record in recent months. ‘Hidden Stories’ will be released at the beginning of May, a week and a half before Hooverphonic hits the stage in Rotterdam.

“It has become a completely different record”, Alex Callier tells Het Nieuwsblad. According to him, their entry for the Eurovision Song Contest does not fit on the record they wrote with Luka last year. They managed to recover a few songs, but most of the songs are completely new. “We started from scratch”, it still sounds. And that was not without stress, because the group only had three months to fully finish the record.

Three numbers less

‘Hidden Stories’ contains three songs less than the original album. Last year there were still thirteen songs on the track list. The album, which will be in stores from May, has only ten. ‘Release Me’, the song that the group would take to Eurosong last year, is nowhere to be found. According to Alex Callier, the song just didn’t fit on the new record anymore. “A record just has to be right”, says Callier. “And ten strong songs is enough. I prefer people to remain hungry. ” We can expect ‘Hidden Stories’, the twelfth album by Hooverphonic, on May 7th.

The album of the group still contains the song ‘Full Moon Duel’, initially also a contender for the Eurovision Song Contest. It is also a song that Alex Callier wrote for his two heroes: Ennio Morricone and John Barry. “We certainly noticed the song, but with ‘The Wrong Place’ we made the best choice”, it further says in Het Nieuwsblad.

It remains to be seen whether the group will actually score with their choice. On May 18 she will be in the first semifinal of the Eurovision Song Contest. If ‘The Wrong Place’ is to the taste, Hooverphonic will be in the final on 22 May.
