Residual lung tissue damage is generally limited and is seen most frequently in patients admitted to the ICU.
Lung damage may be inevitable with Covid-19, but it can be prevented. According to research, the most common complaints after three months are fatigue, shortness of breath and chest pain.
“The patterns we saw in these patients show similarities to recovery after acute pneumonia or acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) where fluid builds up in the lungs,” says pulmonologist Bram van den Borst.
“Recovery from this condition also generally takes a long time. It is very encouraging to see the lungs after Covid-19 infection show this level of recovery,” he added.
After recovery, very few abnormalities were seen in the lungs
