Honors the anniversaries of the Riga Ballet School Alexander Kolbins and Nadezhda Možeiko / Article / LSM.lv

On March 8, at the Riga Ballet School, the former soloist of the Latvian National Ballet, now the school’s classical dance teacher Aleksandrs Kolbins and the long-term concertmaster of the educational institution Nadezhda Možeiko were honored in a round circle. In honor of both, the Ministry of Culture awarded honorary articles for its long-term and significant contribution to the training of young ballet artists.

Instead of the usual hustle and bustle at the Riga Ballet School, there is silence. Only short-term one-to-one consultations are allowed in person, and daily activities have been replaced by remote meetings under the supervision of teachers. During this unusual time, the presentation of the Ministry of Culture’s honorary articles to the anniversaries of the Ballet School – ballet artist and teacher Aleksandrs Kolbins and the long-term concertmaster of the Ballet School Nadezhda Možeiko – was especially touching.

“Ballet is a combination of dance and music, and I’ve been faithful to it almost my whole life!” stressed Nadezhda Mozeiko. “A ballet concertmaster must know the ballet repertoire, choreographic rules, be able to improvise.

But first you have to love ballet, breathe with ballet. ”

Former Prime Minister of the Latvian National Ballet Aleksandrs Kolbins started working as a teacher at the Riga School of Choreography at that time more than thirty years ago. During them, many young and talented ballet artists were trained.

“When you see that they’re coping and that they’re dancing and dancing beautifully, it’s just fun,” Colbin said.

“It simply came to our notice then. Damn hard profession and cruel. The most negative that can be, except for their beauty. ”

Alexander Kolbin calls ballet the greatest dependence of his life, but the current distance learning is a serious motivation test for many of his students.

“It simply came to our notice then. It needs to be passed from hand to hand, from foot to foot. And if you don’t feel like a partner, let’s say how to dance for two, because the word “duo” by itself means that there must be two people. You have to dance in pairs. And there is no way to theorize it. You can’t learn ballet after a book, ”Kolbins emphasized.
