Honors and Farewell for Officer Jonnathan Diller: A Heartbreaking Tribute at Santa Rosa de Lima Church

The honors began with hundreds of motorcycle police escorting Officer Jonnathan Diller’s casket.

Later, the sound of bagpipes and drums created an atmosphere of sadness and solemnity presenting the honors and saying goodbye to the murdered 31-year-old young police officer, while the hearse with his body entered the Santa Rosa de Lima church in Long Island.

There, Diller’s wife moved everyone with her words:

“I always admired him for his honesty and courage, he was my confidant, but nothing compares to his best role; that of being a father. Jonathan always wanted to be a father and he was the best of all… We were happy,” he said through tears.

Those who also spoke in front of family, friends and fellow uniformed officers were the city’s mayor and the New York Police Commissioner, who appointed Diller to the position of First Grade Detective.

“There is not much I can say to take away the pain from the family members and from all of us. In these days when one reflects on the sacrifice of Jesus and what it means to give one’s life for others, that is what Jonathan Diller did,” said Mayor Adams.

Edward Caban, Commissioner of the NYPD, assures:

“On behalf of the entire police department, I extend our deepest and most sincere condolences to you, there is nothing that prepares us for times like these.”

Thousands of police officers were waiting outside, who from early in the morning, and little by little, were arriving with the uniforms they use for special occasions, all of them full of sadness, pain and anger at the same time…

And they still cannot accept how a criminal with an extensive criminal history could be on the streets of the city armed, and opening fire at point-blank range on Monday during a traffic intervention in Far Rockaway.

He shot officer Jonathan Diller, ending his life, leaving his young son orphaned, and his wife in deep pain.

Officer Helen Martínez says:

“It’s very tragic. We are all very sad. Although we are not from the same department. We are all one and we are here for everyone. Joined. That’s what we’re all here for. To feel and be united by our brother.”

You’re telling me they should change the laws because this is the person who shot and killed the officer, he had an extensive criminal record?

“Yes, unfortunately nothing has happened. She continued on the street and that’s why something like this happened. Do you get it?”

The detective’s remains now rest in a cemetery in the town of Farmingdale, on Long Island.

Hispanics, who also told us how sad they are. For the loss of one of their own.
