Karlovy Vary (Czech Republic), June 30 (EFE).- The 57th edition of the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival (KVIFF) opened this Friday and featured filmmaker Russell Crowe, who received the Crystal Globe.
The opening ceremony of the prestigious event that will last until July 8 took place at the Thermal Hotel in the bohemian spa Karlovy Vary, in the west of the Czech Republic.
The 60-year-old New Zealand director, film producer and musician Crowe, “gladiator” in the famous Ridley Scott film, was honored for his contribution to world cinema.
The Scottish actor, director and producer Ewan McGregor was another of the well-known faces who attended the welcome gala and he did so together with his daughter, Clara McGregor, with whom he stars in his latest film “You sing loud, I sing louder”. which will be screened tomorrow.
Oscar-winning Swedish actress Alicia Vikander also attended the ceremony and received the President’s Award, an award that will also be received this year by American actress and director Robin Wright and Ewan Mcgregor.
Crowe’s performance at the head of the Indoor Garden Party band on a stage open to the public closed the opening gala.
Tomorrow, Saturday, the contest will offer the world premiere of the Spanish film “The girls are fine”, which, directed by Itsaso Arana, will compete with ten other feature films for the Crystal Globe. EFE
