The head of the Slovak government, Robert Fico, is famous for saying that he did not notice the revolution in 1989. In his speech to the Diet, he then pointed out that the current government might not last the full four years, as he only has a narrow majority in parliament.
“Let’s be realistic and prepare for other options of political development in Slovakia besides the parliamentary elections in time in 2027,” he said.
The former Czech President Miloš Zeman, in a welcome video to the participants of the parliament, proposed the Directive to consider a merger with the Green Social Democracy party. He believes that it is somewhat unusual if there are two social democratic parties in the country. “As far as I know, there is an example like this in Europe only in Portugal, nowhere else,” Zeman said, according to the group.
