Honor for Beat “Bidu” Gerber

After SCB had to leave the ice as a loser in the last four direct duels against Lugano, this evening they achieved a convincing 4-2 win against the Ticino team.

With this important victory, the Mutzen overtake Lugano again in the table and improve to 4th place.
After Beat “Bidu” Gerber was honored, where his #2 was pulled under the roof of the hall, the traditional derby between Bern and Lugano finally started. However, it took a few minutes for both teams to get up to speed, but top chances were still in short supply. Then suddenly out of nowhere and with the first shot at the Bern goal, LaLeggia made it 1-0 for HC Lugano. Bern now lost the thread a bit and the guests had good chances to score in the next few minutes, but Adam Reideborn didn’t let another puck pass until the break.

After the break, the Bernese went to work more determinedly and made their mark on the game more and more. Towards the middle of the game, Jussi Tapola’s team turned the result around within just under a minute and took the lead 2-1. First Dominik Kahun scored the equalizer and just 58 seconds later Benjamin Baumgartner scored the opening goal. The mood in the PostFinance Arena was excellent, but was dampened somewhat by two penalties in a row. But for once the Ticino team were not successful in the power play and Bern defended their narrow lead. After a scuffle between Daniel Carr and Romain Loeffel, the Lugano striker conceded twice in 2 minutes. Bern didn’t miss the chance, Benjamin Baumgartner on a pass from Tristan Scherwey made it 3-1 shortly before the second break.

In the final period, the Bernese actually had everything under control and even had the chance to increase the score to 4-1, but they narrowly missed the empty goal. 24 seconds before the end, tension arose again as Lugano top scorer Calvin Thürkauf scored the next goal for Luganesi. At the last second, SCB captain Simon Moser made everything clear with the empty net to make it 4-2.
