The Chinese car manufacturer Hongqi, which focuses on luxury and premium cars, will expand its model line with an MPV.

The Hongqi brand has recently been trying to expand its portfolio of premium cars, and with some models it would like to succeed in Europe. It currently offers sedans and SUVs, but it looks like it will also introduce an MPV in the near future. It will be named HQ9.
As the photos of the prototype suggest, the MPV will adopt some of the brand’s distinctive design cues. In particular, it is a massive radiator mask occupying practically the entire front, which is connected to the headlights. There’s plenty of chrome.

When viewed from the side, Hongqi impresses with its relatively purposeful angular shape, large doors (the rear ones are sliding), interestingly designed D-pillars and an unusual roof line. The roof spoiler is also special. The rear is then dominated by connected headlights.
The interior promises a luxurious atmosphere, which is especially indicated by the individual seats in the second row. In the available images, we see sliding, leather-upholstered armchairs with folding footstools. There are separate seats in the front as well, and again there is a generous use of leather.
There is a digital instrument panel and a large infotainment screen, located above a large center console with an automatic transmission control, physical controls and a place to put down a phone with wireless charging.
The Chinese media write about the use of a turbocharged two-liter with a power of around 250 horsepower. A plug-in hybrid version could also arrive. Whether Hongqi will send the HQ9 to Europe is not yet certain. But we would rather bet that this will only happen if the luxury MPV gets a purely electric version.
