Channel A’s ‘Table for Four’ broadcaster Hong Seok-cheon opened up about what he experienced after coming out.
Hong Seok-cheon, the first celebrity to come out in Korea, appears as the main character in Channel A’s ‘Best Friends Tocumentary Table for 4’ (hereinafter referred to as ‘Table for 4’), which airs at 8:10 pm on the 27th.
In a recent recording, Hong Seok-cheon invited his close friends to a building he owns in Itaewon and expressed his feelings about filming a commercial again 25 years after coming out.
Hong Seok-cheon’s best friends include Ahn Seon-young, a friend of 22 years who recently turned into a businessman and is in his second prime; Lee Moon-sik, a senior-junior in the theater and film department and a luxury supporting actor of 35 years, and Hong Seok-cheon’s daughter Hong Joo-eun, who is Hong Seok-cheon’s legal child.
Hong Seok-cheon told the story of coming out because of love in 2000, when he was on the road to success as a broadcaster, and his family’s reaction at the time. When all broadcasting work was suspended due to coming out, he started working in the restaurant business because he missed people. Hong Seok-cheon then rose again to the point where he was called the ‘Prince of Itaewon’ thanks to his excellent marketing strategy.
Hong Seok-cheon, who ran 13 businesses and was on the road to success, one day collapsed from overwork and confessed his tearful story of being on the verge of death due to sepsis, arousing regret. In addition, it is said that the scene was filled with emotion by revealing the story of how he adopted his niece Hong Joo-eun, who was in the 6th grade of elementary school, as his legal child. Accordingly, her daughter Hong Joo-eun is said to have shed tears while reading a letter she personally wrote for Hong Seok-cheon, and her attention is focused on what the content might be.
Meanwhile, his best friend Lee Moon-sik also shared his turbulent life story. Lee Moon-sik is said to have told an anecdote about having to undergo transplant surgery after being hit by a Molotov cocktail while leading a protest when he was a student at the Department of Theater and Film, which he entered after many twists and turns, and how he decided to die in the military, but then came to his senses thinking of his single mother and started living hard.
