Hong Kong swimmers Make Waves at world Aquatics Championships
Hong Kong’s swimming team is making a splash at the World Aquatics Short Course Championships in Budapest, Hungary. The team,comprised of 15 athletes [[2]], has already achieved meaningful success, including a new national record.
Star swimmer Siobhan Haughey, known as the “female flying fish,” recently secured a fourth-place finish in the women’s 100-meter freestyle. However, the team’s most remarkable feat came in the mixed 4×50-meter freestyle relay.
On Friday, December 13th, the Hong Kong team, consisting of He Shibei, He Zhentao, Gu Yihao, and young rising star Li xinyao, clocked a time of 1:30.94 in the preliminary round, securing their place in the final.In a thrilling final, they shattered the existing Hong Kong record, finishing with a time of 1:30.40 and claiming a commendable seventh-place finish.
This performance surpasses the previous Hong Kong record of 1:30.43 set by Wu Chuan, He Zhentao, He Shibei, and Tam Kailin at the 2021 Short Course World Championships. While Italy took gold with a time of 1:28.50, Canada (1:28.60) and Poland (1:28.80) secured silver and bronze, respectively. The Hong Kong team’s performance showcases the dedication and talent within their program.

The 41st Special Olympics Hong Kong Swimming Competition, held at the Tsuen Wan Shing mun Valley Swimming Pool, celebrated the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.
