Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Chief Executive Lee Ka-chao said in a meeting with the media before attending the executive meeting on July 11 that if the Japanese side insists on discharging nuclear-contaminated water into the sea in spite of its opposition, Hong Kong will expand the scale of import restrictions on Japanese seafood.

If Japan insists on discharging nuclear-contaminated water into the sea, the scale of Hong Kong’s import restrictions on Japan will exceed the current policy regulations. In this regard, the SAR government is preparing to set up an interdepartmental team supervised and coordinated by the Chief Secretary for Administration and led by the Secretary of the Environment and Ecology Bureau to study relevant action plans and implementation plans.
