The outbreak in Hong Kong has entered a plateau: the Department of Health announced today (20) that there have been 5,433 new confirmed cases of new coronary pneumonia in Hong Kong, including 5,098 local cases and 335 imported cases. The hospital authority announced that nine more patients died today.
A total of 10,093 deaths have been recorded so far in the fifth wave of the outbreak.
Among the imported cases, there were a total of 99 cases belonging to the XBB sub-lineage and 9 cases from the BQ.1.1 sub-lineage.
Today, 4 other aged care homes have confirmed cases, with 9 residents and 1 staff member diagnosed with the virus. A total of 30 residents are listed as close contacts.
Regarding schools, a total of 482 schools reported a total of 665 cases involving 567 students and 98 employees. In addition, 7 schools, including 6 classes and 3 extra-curricular activity groups, will be suspended for one week due to suspected cases of transmission.
