Honduran President Xiomara Castro recently stated that her government condemns all types of negotiations between drug traffickers and politicians, and denounced that a plan is underway to destroy her “socialist and democratic” government.
He also confirmed that the internal peace and security of the Republic is at risk and specified that a new coup d’état is being planned that the people must repel.
“The plan to destroy my socialist and democratic government is underway,” said the Honduran president, adding that “the dark forces of 2009, along with the national and international media, are reorganizing” to carry out the coup.
“The plan to combat crime and execution demonstrates our political commitment to extradition, but I will not allow the current treaty with the United States to be selectively exploited to dismantle the armed forces, overthrow my government and destroy the elections (scheduled for 2025),” the president stressed.
In this context, President Castro demanded that the Public Prosecutor’s Office act immediately and independently of who it is.
A video from 2013 was published in local Honduran media, which shows a meeting between drug traffickers and President Xiomara Castro’s brother-in-law, Carlos Zelaya, in which money was supposedly handed over for the electoral campaign of the now-ruling party, Libertad y Refundación (Libre).
Former Honduran President Manuel Zelaya, who was overthrown in a coup in 2009, reacted by condemning the meeting between his brother and drug traffickers, but said no money was ever received.
For his part, the Minister of Security, Gustavo Sánchez, reported on all drug trafficking cases that are open for investigation in the United States courts without applying any selectivity.
Sánchez mentioned the 26 cases of the National Party, including Juan Orlando Hernández, sentenced to 45 years in prison “for turning Honduras into a narco-state” and Juan Antonio Hernández, sentenced to life imprisonment.
