Honduras registers 6,240 deaths from covid since the start of the pandemic

Tegucigalpa, May 26 (EFE) .- Honduras registered 30 new deaths from covid-19 on Wednesday, with which there are already 6,240 since March 2020, when the pandemic began to spread in the country, reported the state National Management System Risk (Sinager).

The health agency also added 1,007 new infections to its charts among 4,044 tests processed by the National Virology Laboratory, for a global accumulated of 234,923.

With regard to hospitalized patients nationwide, the Sinager pointed out that there are 1,075, of which 563 have a stable clinical picture, 452 are seriously ill and 60 are in intensive care units.

In addition, he indicated that another 245 patients have recovered, so that there are already 84,006 who have been saved from dying from covid-19.

Regarding the vaccination process, which continues to be slow, the Minister of Health, Alba Consuelo Flores, told reporters today that on May 31 the immunization of those over 75 years of age will be finalized.

He added that in the second week of June Honduras will receive 187,000 AstraZeneca and 212,000 Pfizer vaccines, donated under the Covax mechanism promoted by the World Health Organization (WHO), with which it will begin to inoculate people over 60 years of age.

So far Honduras has received some 526,600 vaccines, mostly donated, for a country with 9.5 million inhabitants, of which for now only those over 18 years of age can be immunized.

Pregnant women and those under 18 do not enter the inoculation process, which began in February. EFE
