Honduras dawns today with a general taxi strike
A new national strike started today in Honduras, promoted by the transport organizations that operate in the country.
The stoppage will be indefinite and begins this Monday, September 7.
The measure aims to pressure the government authorities, the Multisectorial Table and the National Risk Management System (Sinager) to create a ‘negotiating table’ where they can expose the problems of the sector in the midst of the covid-19 pandemic. 19.
The taxi drivers released the details through a statement
Said statement was signed by the Honduran Transportation Platform, the National Transportation Council, the Honduran Taxi Drivers Association (Ataxish), the Honduras Special Transportation Federation (Fetraseh), the Honduras Interurban and Urban Transportation Consortium, the Association of Taxi Transport Companies, the United Transport Association and the Association of Radio Taxi Companies.
Among the measures proposed by the transport sector to operate is the reopening of the activity, since the authorities have authorized only a part of the vehicles and with a reduced number of passengers.
In that sense, the carriers allege that more than 100,000 direct jobs have been affected, among administrative and operational collaborators and support personnel, according to the statement.
On the other hand, they denounce that the competition with other carriers is not fair and also prevents them from carrying out their work effectively, since not all comply with the rules.
In addition, Honduras will register the worst economic decline in its history:
“We have problems with unfair competition and us if they demand biosecurity from us.”
Likewise, they affirm that with the restriction measures the population has been forced to pay high rates to be able to mobilize, since a good part of the public service is not active.
Another problem exposed is that they claim that many of their members are being harassed by financial institutions with which they have acquired commitments, which has a direct impact on the physical and emotional health of taxi drivers.
For this reason, they maintain that the strike will be indefinitely, until a table made up of their representatives and competent authorities is created.
