Immunization against COVID-19 is progressing progressively in the country, with more than 13.9 million doses applied, according to data from the Expanded Program on Immunizations (EPI).
Of this total, six million 134,942 correspond to first doses, five million 194,420 are second doses and two million 593,119 between third doses and booster doses, so it is necessary for Hondurans to start or complete a scheme to achieve the so-called herd immunity.
Similarly, in terms of the first booster applied to the population aged 12 and over, two million 493.66 doses were counted, while the second booster applied to the population over 12 years old accounted for 56,775 doses.
The health regions that present the highest coverage in vaccination against COVID are the metropolitan of the Central District, Cortés, metropolitan of San Pedro Sula, Yoro, Comayagua and Atlántida, among others.
HOME BRIGADES
The Ministry of Health (Sesal) has more than 1,600 health establishments nationwide for the population to go to get vaccinated against COVID-19. House-to-house brigades are also carried out with the aim of protecting citizens from the serious forms of this disease.
The vaccine is an essential tool to avoid complications in people’s health, however, it is necessary for Hondurans to continue with biosecurity measures such as the use of a mask, washing hands with soap and water, alcohol gel and keeping the physical distancing.
Through bilateral purchases and donations, Honduras has received more than 15.6 million doses of vaccines to continue inoculating the population and thus avoid hospitalizations and deaths from COVID-19. (DS)
