Almost a month after the end of the period of application of the second dose of the vaccine to more than 103 thousand Nicaraguans, the Honduran authorities call those who have not yet been injected, to come to complete their immunization schedule against the covid- 19, but this time complying with the due immigration procedures.
As they did during the application of the first and second doses, the health authorities of the neighboring country used social networks to invite Nicaraguans to complete their immunization schedule. This Monday, January 3, through the social networks of San Marcos de Colón 0615, they reported that those who have not yet been vaccinated, can still do so. They have to go to the Biological Warehouse to receive it; This Warehouse is located in the city of Choluteca, Honduras.
In October, Nicaraguans began entering Honduras through blind spots in search of the vaccine. Most were people between the ages of 30 and 59 looking for American vaccines; in Nicaragua this segment of the population was offered the Russian Sputnik and Sputnik Light. Later, adolescents and young people were added to whom Nicaragua offered the Cuban vaccines Soberana and Abdala. Honduras offered the American companies Pfizer to pregnant women and chronically ill patients and Moderna to the rest of the population.
Honduras vaccinated 103,611 Nicaraguans
The overflow of people forced the border authorities of both countries to allow the entry and exit of Nicaraguans who came to be immunized. The Honduran health authorities set up various posts at the border posts of El Espino, Guasaule and Las Manos, and in nearby communities. For weeks the lines were kilometers long; many people even slept awaiting the injection.
On November 10, at the end of the day, the Honduran health authorities reported that they had applied the first dose to 103,611 Nicaraguans. Later they announced that in the first days of December they would apply the second dose against covid-19 to these people.
Along with the call to complete the vaccination scheme, the Honduran authorities clarified that now the people who come to be vaccinated must carry out the corresponding immigration procedures. That is, complete the immigration pre-check requirement that Honduras requires to enter its territory.
Honduras is already applying the booster dose to people who have already completed their schedule. But so far it has not said if they will apply that third dose to Nicaraguans who completed their vaccination schedule in that country.
