Honda’s Space Hub Exhibit at CES 2024 – Are Their Concept Cars More Cyberpunk Than Cyberpunk 2077?

Tech events aren’t always about PC parts or gadgets, as Honda’s Space Hub exhibit at CES 2024 showed. The booth featured two concept vehicles that evoked Cyberpunk 2077-level sci-fi vibes – to the point that some visitors claim that Honda’s vision for cars in the coming years is much more cyberpunk than Cyberpunk 2077 itself.

Futuristic-looking concept cars are the norm at automotive events, and the vast majority of them follow the same template: angular or sleek lines with as few concessions to practicality as possible.

Honda’s offerings at CES 2024 don’t break this long-standing tradition, but when you look at them, it seems like this is cyberpunk.

Author PCGamerwho attended the show, spent an hour in Night City looking at all the cars he could find and comparing them to Honda’s 0-series concepts. And he says Honda’s presentation of 2070s cars is definitely better than CD’s designers Projekt RED.

Honda’s concepts still look like modern cars and not something out of science fiction. The reason is that such exhibition models are not developed with a forecast for the distant future – rather, they are designed for what could become the norm in a decade.

The two demo cars on display, part of Honda’s 0 series of electric vehicles, make it clear that we’ll have to say goodbye to door handles, mirrors and ease of entry. Instead, we’ll get mirrored surfaces, panels with seamless joints, and RGB lighting throughout.

Against this backdrop, CD Projekt’s vision of the future, especially for a city that spans the wealth spectrum, suggests that cars will still have many of the aspects of utility we see today.

In fact, many of them would look quite natural today, which is why it seems that Honda concept cars may reflect the real car market in the second half of the century. Meanwhile, companies such as Tesla and JLR have already rid some of their models of door handles and rear-view mirrors. And some Audi cars don’t even have mirrors.

What will cars be like in the real year 2077? There is no point in imagining this, because given the progress of AI in just the last couple of years, it is clear that the world of technology is moving too fast to imagine vehicles designed for that era. Although from a technology point of view, we can say that they will be electric and equipped with an advanced autopilot, so you won’t have to drive anymore.
