Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Problem components are nothing new in manufacturing production, including automotive. Whether it’s a large component or a component that is part of a machine, whether it’s a car or a motorbike. Likewise with the recall or recall of products that are produced imperfectly or have problems, also not new. This is because recalls are often a policy taken by manufacturers to overcome crises caused by these problematic productions.

Most recently, Honda’s automatic scooter has been in the spotlight because of its Enhanced Smart Architecture Frame (eSAF) frame, which is complained of being easily corroded and broken. It’s just that, Astra Honda Motor (AHM), which is the sole agent holding the brand (ATPM), is still reluctant to do a recall or recall program.

The reason is because there has been no order from the government.

In the latest release on August 31 2023, AHM emphasized that it does not want to do a recall yet, but is serving checks for consumers who submit complaints about their motorbikes.

“We are very careful in conducting searches and analysis by investigating the causes of the problems complained of. We are cooperative in helping the ministry to analyze these consumer complaints. Thank you for trusting AHM and the entire Honda network,” said AHM Marketing Director Octavianus Dwi Putro, quoted Tuesday (5/9/2023).

A different attitude came from another Japanese motorcycle manufacturer, Suzuki. When the problem component was found, Suzuki immediately did a recall. This policy has been implemented since 2018 and has been carried out 3 times.

First on April 17 2018, Suzuki conducted a recall by replacing the Bolt Set Engine Mounting component on the GSX-R/S 150 motorcycle. This program covers 40,578 units of Suzuki GSX-R/S 150 motorcycles produced in the period December 8 2016 – 5 March 2018.

Second, in February 2019, Suzuki held this program to replace the clutch release bearing components on the All New Satria F150 motorcycle. And the third is a recall of Suzuki Address FI motorbikes produced between 2015 and 2018.

The components to be examined in the program are the crankshaft, generator rotor, horn switch and starter switch. Until now, the three programs are still ongoing and are provided free of charge.

“Oh product quality update, yes. It’s still open until all customers take part in the program. So far there is no time limit or deadline,” said Public Relations of PT Suzuki Indomobil Sales (SIS) Zulfikar Rafi Al Ghani to CNBC Indonesia, Tuesday (5/ 9/23).

To take part in this program, you can first check the vehicle at www.suzuki.co.id by entering the maintenance menu then selecting “Suzuki Product Quality Update”. Next, the customer will be asked to fill in the 17-digit frame number, name and telephone number.

“Only a few hours, about 1-2 hours. Usually all customers do routine service,” he concluded.
