Honda will create a separate electric car division with the aim of developing cars of higher quality

Japanese car manufacturer Honda has announced that it will create a separate department within the company, which will be tasked with working on the design and development of electric cars and other related technologies. Honda, like other Japanese automakers, has so far lagged behind in the development of electric cars, but now they are trying to close the gap.

Honda announced ambitious electrification plans last year – by 2030, the manufacturer wants to offer 30 new electric models, as well as increase production capacity to 2 million electric cars per year. Also, the automaker plans to invest 40 billion US dollars in the development of electric cars over the next 10 years

In electrification projects, Honda also cooperates with other companies – the manufacturer has agreed with General Motors, and a lot has been reported about Honda-Sony cooperation in the development of electric cars. In this project, Honda is responsible for the technical development and production of the electric car, while Sony will supply it with software and entertainment options. Earlier this year at CES 2023, the project’s brand, Afeela, was announced. We will see the first cars in 2026.

Honda’s plan envisages that the new electric car division will start its work in full on April 1, combining all the necessary resources that are currently scattered across various departments in the manufacturer’s structural units.
