Jakarta –
Honda Mobilio sales figures show a downward trend every year. Wow, is Honda deliberately stopping the Honda Mobilio in order to smooth the way for the All New Honda BR-V in Indonesia?
In the car sales report released by Gaikindo, Honda Mobilio continues to experience a decline in sales. In 2016 the Honda Mobilio managed to sell 28,981 units with the fourth position as the best-selling car. In 2017 Honda Mobilio achieved sales of 35,340 units by occupying the third highest position in Indonesia.
Entering 2018, the Honda Mobilio sold 24,373 units and managed to occupy the fifth position as the best-selling car. Then in 2019 Honda Mobilio’s sales figure again decreased to 15,318 units (fifth position). The negative trend continued in 2020 and 2021 where sales figures were only 5,668 units and 4,424 units, respectively.

The decline in the number of Mobilio sales is in line with Honda’s production data, which only produces the cheapest version of the car. This further confirms the notion that Honda seems to be willing to release the Low Multi Purpose Vehicle (LMPV) segment in Indonesia. Is that true?
Business Innovation and Sales & Marketing Director of PT Honda Prospect Motor, Yusak Billy, confirmed that this was not true. He ensured that the Honda Mobilio was still on track with the production line and was still Honda’s mainstay in Indonesia.
“Honda Mobilio is 7 passengers, now we focus on Low Sport Utility Vehicle (LSUV), according to the wishes and needs of the community because it is due to infrastructure and consumer needs. What about Low Multi Purpose Vehicle (LMPV)? We have another strategy, why now more manuals (production)? We have a special strategy later but we will enforce it with the development of new regulations for our strategy,” said the man who is often called Billy.
Billy added that Honda is currently focusing on introducing LSUV in Indonesia according to the needs of the Indonesian people.
“The SUV-style LMPV, the LMPV market? The results of our study show that the LSUV market is better, but there are still LMPVs. We focus on 7 LSUV passengers, we just focus on LSUV. Honda Mobilio in December reached 450 units, but we are still producing,” said Billy.
“Honda Mobilio increased ground clearance? We have our own strategy,” Billy added.
