Honda Jazz Hybrid costs from 22,000 euros (pictures)

Honda sells the new generation of the Jazz small car in Europe exclusively with hybrid drive. The model can be recognized by the “e: HEV” lettering. The hybrid system developed for Jazz consists of two compact electric motors, a 1.5-liter DOHC i-VTEC petrol engine, a lithium-ion battery and a direct drive with an intelligent control unit.

With an output of 109 hp (80 kW), the new Jazz accelerates from zero to 100 km / h in 9.4 seconds, and a maximum of 175 km / h is possible. In the entry-level version, Honda specifies fuel consumption as 3.6 l / 100 km with CO2 emissions of 82 g / km according to the NEDC standard. The Jazz Crosstar with crossover optics reaches 3.9 l / 100 km and 89 g / km.

The Jazz e: HEV can drive with three different drive modes. If the electric drive (“EV Drive”) is selected, the electric motor supplied with energy from the lithium-ion battery moves the vehicle – the maximum number of kilometers is not yet known. In the hybrid drive, the petrol engine drives the second electric motor, which works as a generator and generates energy for the electric drive motor. In the engine drive, the petrol engine is connected directly to the wheels via a lock-up clutch.

According to Honda, the Jazz e: HEV automatically switches between electric and hybrid drive in most inner-city driving situations. At high speeds, the internal combustion engine also takes over the drive work; if necessary, the electric drive motor delivers a “boost” for additional torque. In hybrid mode, excess power from the petrol engine can be used to charge the battery via the generator. When the vehicle decelerates, the electric drive charges the battery with recuperated energy.

The trunk volume of the Jazz e: HEV is 298 liters and can be increased to 1203 liters by folding down the rear seats. The “Magic Seats” can be lowered and folded up if necessary. Networked infotainment services can be activated via the Jazz e: HEV’s LCD touchscreen or via voice control, including information on weather and parking spaces, music, navigation, location and telephone services. In addition to the integrated apps, smartphone content can be integrated via Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. The connection is either wireless or via USB. In addition, a WLAN hotspot can be set up in jazz for the first time.

In the Jazz e: HEV, a new high-resolution wide-angle camera on the front with an expanded field of vision creates the conditions for various safety functions and driver assistance systems. The collision warning system with active braking intervention now recognizes pedestrians and cyclists day and night and automatically brakes even oncoming or turning vehicles. Adaptive cruise control and an active lane departure warning system are also standard.

The market launch of the Honda Jazz e: HEV is planned for summer 2020. Prices start at 22,000 euros for the new jazz and 26,250 euros for the new jazz cross star.
