Honda Prospect Motor (HPM) has confirmed that it will continue to market the Civic Type R even though its production plant in the UK was declared closed on Thursday (29/7) after more than 35 years of operation.

Business Innovation and Sales & Marketing Director of Honda Prospect Motor HPM Yusak Billy said that the car sales will continue to be carried out according to consumer demand in the country.

It provides an example for preparation in meeting demand for 2021.

“To meet the needs of the market in Indonesia, we have prepared all the needs in 2021,” said Billy via text message, Friday (30/7).

He said that his party was still discussing with the principal to determine which party would supply the Civic Type R to Indonesia.

“We are communicating with the principal about this,” he said.

The first Civic Type R was marketed in Indonesia in 2017, which according to wholesales data or distribution from factories to dealers began in October.

In 2017 the number of wholesalers was 52 units, in 2018 it fell to 45 units, and in 2019 there were 16 units according to Gaikindo data. While 2020 HPM did not import this car and relied on the remaining stock since 2019, while 2021 has brought in three units.

“What is certain is that the stock for consumers is safe,” he said.

The Swindon factory in England was established in 1985. This supplier factory for Europe and Southeast Asia was once one of the largest in the UK, with a capacity of 150 thousand units per year.

Honda cars produced from the Civic and CR-V models to the Civic Type R.

The plant shutdown is part of Honda’s global restructuring, which is planning a change in its strategy to feature electric and similar cars with lower exhaust emissions.
