The Japanese automaker’s first all-electric model for the European market stayed on the assembly line for less than four years.
The Honda e is a five-door hatchback that the company developed with an emphasis on the European market. The car stood out for its compact dimensions and cute looks, but after a thoroughly warm reception that culminated in the title of German Car of the Year 2021, sales numbers began to dwindle.
In the debut year of the 2020 model, Europeans bought a little more than four thousand copies of the Honda e, in 2021 – 3.7 thousand, and in 2022 only 2.1 thousand units and there were two reasons for this: firstly, the small hatchback had to be displayed a juicy 40,000 euros, secondly, the range turned out to be less than most wanted – only 210 kilometers after the WLTP cycle.
As a result, instead of the planned ten thousand cars per year, European dealers sold a much smaller number of Honda e, and without any hope of a positive outcome in the future.
Taking into account the situation, Honda has decided to stop the production of the electric hatchback from January 2024.
Let’s add that Honda e was also well received in the Latvian Car of the Year 2021 competition, where it won the “Design Award”.
