Honda e, the Japanese automaker’s first electric car on European markets, was first presented to the public back in 2017, but then as an Urban EV concept. In 2019, the automaker presented a production version that was almost identical to the concept. And that was one of the car’s great strengths.
The small city hatchback with a length of 3.9 meters referred to the design of the Honda Civic from the seventies, it impressed with elegant smooth surfaces without unnecessary curls, it had modern recessed door handles, and the classic mirrors were replaced by cameras, the output of which was practically brought out on the edges of the dashboard.

But it was a little worse with practicality, when the luggage compartment offered only 171 liters as standard, and the battery with a capacity of 35.5 kWh was supposed to be enough for a range of 210 km according to WLTP. On the contrary, the price was relatively high, which at the time of the editorial test in 2020 started at 899,900 CZK, but could easily approach a million.
The combination of these factors resulted in relatively low sales. In addition, customers prefer SUVs and crossovers, which was finally taken into account by the Japanese automaker. She first stated that the Honda e will not have a successor. According to the information Engine1 but it recently posted on its Japanese website that it plans to end production of the city hatchback in January 2024.
The indirect successor of the Honda e should then be the purely electric SUV Honda e:Ny1, which will offer more space and practicality. A car similar to the HR-V model stands on a purely electric platform, its front wheels are driven by an electric motor with a capacity of 204 horsepower, the battery with a capacity of 68.8 kWh should offer a range of around 412 kilometers.
