The last time we wrote about the new generation of the Honda Civic Type R was on Tuesday, and now we have another new piece of information. The official premiere of the Japanese hot-hatch is scheduled for Thursday next week, but the first photo of the car has already leaked. On a discussion forum dedicated to the eleventh generation Civic, a supposed screenshot from Honda’s Japanese website has surfaced, showing us for the first time the Type R without masking tape or mysterious shadows.

We tried to click through the given page, but if the photo is not just the work of a skilled graphic designer, then Honda caught the leak and took the photo down. The image isn’t high-res, so it’s hard to judge details, but the promises of a more conventional look seem to have been kept. The front end pretty much matches what we could see in the first official photo of the production car that was released earlier this week.
The wheels and sills of the car match what we could see on the camouflaged prototype. This means low-mounted inconspicuous exhausts behind the front wheels and wings in front of the rear ones. Even the rear wing looks like the one the prototype was photographed with. An interesting thing is the vent in the hood, which was not visible in the first official photo and was masked on the prototype.
If it is a forgery, it is at least a successful one, and according to all indications so far, the production car will look very similar or even identical. The Civic Type R’s official unveiling isn’t much time away, so we’ll know in no time. As we wrote in Tuesday’s articlethe premiere of the car will take place next week on Thursday, July 21, specifically at four in the morning our time.

In conclusion, let’s remind you that under the hood of the next sharp Civic, the evolution of the existing powertrain is expected. This was a turbocharged two-liter four-cylinder with an output of 235 kW (320 hp) working with a six-speed manual, through which power flowed to the wheels of the front axle. Previously, there was speculation about a transition to a hybrid with all-wheel drive and an automatic transmission.
