Honda CUB, a myth of the past returns: the modern “clone” costs very little

The world of two wheels is truly vast. A sector in which you never stop investing, especially with a view to the future. However, one company wanted to bring all fans back to the past.

A vehicle in step with the times, but with a retro style, doesn’t it exist? Never again wrong thought. And this is demonstrated by Felo, the Chinese scooter manufacturer, which in 2022 brings to the market a small, light and 100% electric scooter, which winks at the retro style of the old Honda EZ90s.

This particular vehicle is called Felo FW-03, and takes advantage of this particular historical moment in which focusing on electric mobility is an undoubted advantage.

E-bikes, scooters, more or less large scooters. They are all perfect means to juggle in the midst of the chaotic and constant traffic with which our cities force us to live together. And in fact, more and more models are making their debut on the motorcycle market, some of which do not forget the past of the two wheels: the vehicle we are going to see today is a clear demonstration of this.

HONDA CUB EZ90: A DIVE INTO THE PAST

Honda CUB EZ90 (or more simply EZ-9), for fans it is a blast from the past just to hear it mentioned. It is a scooter produced from 1991 to 1996. To tell the truth, its characteristics make it a vehicle halfway between a motocross bike and a scooter. It might as well be part of the trial category.

It was presented at the Tokyo Motor Show in 1990 with the classic and now iconic white, red and blue color scheme. Usually, it was used for off-road routes or, in any case, for spaces not open to normal traffic. Even the commissioners of international motor racing have used it for a few years, as a means of connection between the paddock and the track edge.

The displacement, in Italy, had been lowered to 50 (compared to the original motor which reached 90 cubic centimeters). This also explains why in Italy it was called Honda CUB and not EZ-9. Coming to its characteristics, it was 1.6 meters long and less than one meter wide. It weighs just over 80 kilograms.

Felo FW-03, the scooter between past and present: features and price

The Felo FW-03 has a lot in common with the Honda CUB EZ90 scooters, which were so popular in the 90s. A vehicle that looks to the future without forgetting the past. What differentiates it from the Honda scooter, however, are its origin and motorization. The Felo is in fact totally electric.

It is also very light and powered by an engine capable of delivering up to 5.5 HP of maximum power. In addition, it holds a 48V lithium battery. It takes six to eight hours to recharge this moped. With a full charge, the small scooter can travel 96 kilometers with a top speed of 80 kilometers per hour.

In any case, it is not the performance that makes this vehicle particularly attractive, but the aesthetic details. In fact, it looks a lot like the retro look of the Boosters thanks to a simple and at the same time unmistakable design, with fluorescent details.
