Homeworld 3 Delayed Again Until 2024: Developer Blackbird Ensures Quality Over Time Constraints

The developer Blackbird Interactive has announced that Homeworld 3 will be delayed again, this time until February 2024.

Blackbird/Gearbox

The game was originally expected towards the end of 2022, but was postponed to the first half of 2023. Now it has been postponed again, but Blackbird and the publisher Gearbox want to assure the public that there are no problems with the development that are to blame for the delay.

“Our number one priority is to give people a Homeworld experience that lives up to the standards set by its predecessors and is worthy of this series’ incredible legacy,” reports Blackbird. via Twitter.

The extra time will be spent honing the game.

The gameplay trailer for Homeworld 3 seems to capture the feel of the series perfectly.

The developer has released a couple of trailers, a story trailer (top) and a content trailer (right). These seem to embrace the feel of the old Homeworld games.

A new approach

Blackbird Interactive has previously raised some eyebrows with their progressive approach to the studio’s working environment, after they embraced the four-day week, rejecting the usual rush-hour approach that the games industry otherwise ends up with.

And you interview with Game Rant Chief Creative Officer Rory McGuire and Associate Game Director Kathryn Neale tell us that the shift has proven to be at least as effective, measured in hours. They also believe that the creative work yields better results with more free time, and increases the employees’ mental and physical well-being – and thus their enthusiasm for the projects they work on.

It’s been a long time since the original Homeworld games came out, with the first game released in 1999, and Homeworld 2 in 2003.

The games saw a resurgence with the Homeworld Remastered Collection in 2015, but without the Homeworld: Cataclysm expansion, as the source code has now been lost.

Homeworld 3 has been on the cards for quite some time, first as a Kickstarter project, and now with more traditional funding after the Embracer group bought Blackbird and parent company Gearbox.
