Patients with breast cancer at the General Hospital “Dr. Aurelio Valdivieso ”were left homeless for two weeks, after the only two oncology surgeons at the hospital were unable to continue their work, due to lack of contract renewal.
Newly admitted women for this condition are limited in their care due to the lack of specialists at the Hospital, where four OB / GYNs and the same number of emergency physicians also came out, as well as 29 specialist doctors from different areas.
The role of the oncology surgeons was to decide whether patients should undergo surgery or start chemotherapy or radiation therapy, depending on the results of each study.
The absence of the two specialists left women with breast cancer defenseless, because the Hospital now only has a general oncologist, but without a specialty in this disease.
Carlos Alberto Pérez Bautista, Secretary of Organization of Section 35 of the National Union of Workers of the Ministry of Health (SNTSA), affirmed that the area of care for women with breast cancer in the Hospital has been completely dismantled.
“In hospitals there is no longer such care for women; the problem is that some are left without a correct diagnosis and others without treatment. That is why we are waiting for the federal government to give us an answer and give us a solution to this problem, ”he said.
The union leader pointed out that to date in the hospital women with established treatment go to general consultation or for chemotherapy, but when they require radiotherapy they are channeled to the Oaxaca Oncology and Radiation Therapy Center (CORO), where there is also no specialist who Nor did he renew his contract on September 15.
“The patients are in total helplessness, we do not have breast specialists and it is urgently required,” insisted the Secretary of Organization.
