homeless socks and briefs

This year has been very difficult for everyone, especially for the most vulnerable groups such as the homeless. As every year, the Zaragoza NGO Emotional Well-being has launched its traditional Christmas campaign to collect basic necessities, although, on this occasion, the theme is somewhat different from previous years. “For a couple of weeks we have collected socks and briefs for homeless people,” he explains. Estela Millán, coordinator of the entity.

As Millán explains, the idea arises from the close contact that this organization, closely linked from the beginning to some of the most vulnerable groups in society, maintains with realities like those who live elderly people in a situation of loneliness, the prison population or, in this case, the homeless.

“We are used to donating clothes that we no longer use and clothes that we no longer wear. However, in the case of underwear this does not happen. They have to be new clothes and, as a general rule, it is something that is almost never donated. So we think it would be an interesting and useful initiative”, Affirms the Zaragoza.

And said and done, after two weeks of activity, this Tuesday the NGO delivered 140 pairs of socks and nearly a hundred underpants to thea San Blas Foundation for homeless people in Aragon, located in the Aragonese capital. Thanks to them, today, throughout the day, the users of the center will receive your solidarity gift Christmas Day in one of the most unusual years we could remember.

In addition, it is about a donation that comes from different parts of Spain since they have received garments from places such as -in addition to various points in Aragon-, Madrid, Asturias, Logroño or Ceuta. “We are very happy with the result obtained after this first appeal, so we are going to hold a second edition for Twelfth Night,” he adds.

So, until next January 5, who wants to contribute their grain of sand can leave their donations in the Ixeia Cafeteria & Snack Shop -in the 27 of Pablo Ruiz Picasso-, in the El Caracol shopping center or at the headquarters of the Stellar Association -Valle de Oza, 8-.

Sometimes in life we can end up lost. And this is something that can happen to anyone, which is why it is so important that, when that happens, there is someone willing to take us by the hand and help us move forward. This is the philosophy that they follow from the San Blas Foundation where these weeks have prepared a Christmas bag for their users thanks to the donation of entities such as Emotional Wellbeing and many more. “We have prepared a package for each one with a pair of socks, a brief, glasses and a nougat tablet, in addition to delivering a sleeping bag to anyone who needed it”, explains Antón Borraz, president of the Day Center and Left luggage office of the Aragonese capital.

The preparation of these bags and their subsequent distribution has been carried out by a group of 17 volunteers from the parish of Belén. Furthermore, for the first time in many years, the foundation It will not deliver food on Christmas Eve or New Year’s Eve. “From El Refugio they have invited all our users to enjoy a special menu,” he says.

Different realities, similar emotions

“In most cases they are people who have no one else, without realizing they have been hung up on life and do not know how to return“, Warns Borraz, who recognizes that one of their most satisfactory functions is to help them regain their life:” During these very endearing days some return, already with their jobs and their life, and they bring us a box of chocolates or a cake, and they are details that give you life. In moments like this you realize that all this is worth it ”.

In addition to the donation of underwear, the NGO has also launched different thematic collections to try to make this Christmas warmer for those people who have it more complicated. Among others, they have collected Christmas postcards, poetry and videos with good wishes for the elderly of the Ozanam residences as well as the inmates of the Zuera prison.

“It’s funny, but, although it may seem that these are groups that live very different realities, over time you realize that, deep down, they share similar feelings and emotions such as loneliness or sadness,” admits Millán.
